The Citation Jet series focuses on three core principles: simplicity, economy, and performance. Achieving these goals posed a significant challenge, particularly in designing an aerodynamic structure that is cost-effective and easy to handle. Earlier Citations utilised a straight wing, which, while slowing the aircraft, significantly cut down on production and design costs. The Citation Jet, however, introduced a natural laminar flow wing, a product of a four-year collaboration between Cessna and NASA. This wing design delays airflow separation, enhancing lift-to-drag ratios by ten to fifteen percent compared to previous straight-wing models.
